Intro to coiling

£50.00

This workshop will be held in our new studio in Nairn.

Sat 9th Jan - 10.00 - 13.00

Join us in our new studio for a hands-on workshop of making, getting stuck into clay and exploring the traditional technique of coiling.

We’ll start by learning how to roll even coils, then use them to build your own unique vessel, layer by layer. From soft, wonky and organic forms to something a little more sculptural and considered, you’ll have plenty of freedom to play with shape, proportion and texture.

Along the way, we’ll show you how to join, smooth and shape your coils, as well as a few ways to bring texture and character into the surface of your piece.

Whether you’re completely new to clay or have a little experience, this workshop is all about slowing down, getting your hands in the clay and seeing where the process takes you. We’ll be there to guide you throughout, with plenty of room to experiment and make it your own.

Your host:

Hiya, my name is Jaime and I am a local potter based in Nairn. I moved here last year and after setting my little home studio up I am so excited to now offer workshops, meet other creative people and hopefully have a laugh! I studied ceramics at university and will happily share my knowledge, tips and tricks and chat all things pottery to anyone who’ll listen.

Disclaimer: Just a heads up: Clay can occasionally crack while drying or firing, it's unlikely and the kiln gods are generally on our side, but it does happen on occasion. However, we'll do our very best to prevent it!

Please Note: These are hand building workshops, we will not be using a pottery wheel.
