You’ll work with coloured clays alongside a white clay body to learn decorative techniques including marbling, weaving, and inlay. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll shape, join, and transform your patterned clay slabs into finished forms ready for kiln firing.
All materials are provided, including all clays, tools, and glaze firing. Just bring your creativity and maybe a pal.
What you’ll learn:
How to use coloured clay to create patterns and designs.
Hand-building techniques with step-by-step guidance.
Tips for shaping, joining, and refining your form.
How to add handles, texture, and personal details.
Preparing your design for kiln firing.
Collection
Once dried your work will be professionally fired twice and glazed for a glossy finish, this process takes 2-3 weeks. We will arrange a date where you can collect your work from the front desk at the Community + Arts centre. If this isn’t suitable, we may be able to arrange an alternative. If you prefer, we can post your ceramic pieces, please be aware there is an additional charge for this.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
· Location: Nairn Community and Arts Centre, IV12 4BQ
· Duration: 3 hours
· Price: £40
· Ages: Under 16’s should be accompanied by an adult
· Skill Level: Suitable for beginners – no prior experience required
· What’s Included: All clay, tools, firing and glazing, your one-of-a-kind designs to keep.
· What to Wear: Old clothes or an apron – clay can get messy!
· 🔥 Firing & Collection: Your decorated piece will be fired and ready for collection in 2–3 weeks (collection from the community centre.)
· Spaces: Maximum group of 16
Just a heads up: Clay can occasionally crack while drying or firing, it's unlikely and the kiln gods are generally on our side, but it does happen on occasion. We'll do our very best to prevent it!
Please Note: These are hand building workshops; we will not be using a pottery wheel.

Cancel at least 48 hours before: You’ll get a full refund or can move your booking to another date.
Less than 48 hours / no-show: Since we’ve already prepared the materials, we are unable to offer a refund or reschedule.
If we need to cancel: You’ll get a full refund or can choose a new date, whatever works best for you!
