No experience? No problem! You'll be guided by a friendly local potter who’ll show you how to create your very own ceramic designs using clay slabs and colourful decorating slips.
Each participant will receive pre-rolled clay, ready to cut, shape, and transform into your own mug. You’ll then dive into surface design techniques using vibrant coloured slips to personalise your piece.

Tips for shaping, joining, and refining your form
How to add handles, texture, and personal details
Decorating with vibrant slips using brushes, sponges and tools
Preparing your mug for kiln firing
What You’ll Make:
Your very own handmade mug, personalised with your choice of colours, patterns, and textures—perfect for your morning coffee or as a thoughtful gift. All materials are provided, including clay, tools, and slips. Just bring your imagination—and maybe a friend.
Once dried your work will be professionally fired twice and glazed for a glossy finish, this process takes 2-3 weeks. We will arrange a date where you can collect your work from the front desk at the Community + Arts centre. If this isn’t suitable and we may be able to arrange an alternative. If you prefer we can post your ceramic pieces, please be aware there is an additional charge for this.

Hiya, my name is Jaime and I am a local potter based in Nairn. I moved here last year and after setting my little home studio up I am so excited to now offer workshops, meet other creative people and hopefully have a laugh! I studied ceramics at university and will happily share my knowledge , tips and tricks and chat all things pottery to anyone who’ll listen.

Less than 48 hours / no-show: Since we’ve already prepared the materials we are not able to offer a refund or reschedule.
If we need to cancel: You’ll get a full refund or can choose a new date — whatever works best for you!

Disclaimer: Just a heads-up: Clay can occasionally crack while drying or firing — it's pretty rare and the kiln gods are generally on our side, but it does happen on occasion. Howvever - we'll do our very best to prevent it!
